Week 5th April - Its all about Colostrum

On a personal level I have been battling with Candidia ever since I had my little boy two and a half years ago. I have never believed that a diet so restricted that it causes you mysery is going to help anything and whilst the worst of it was over years ago I have had a few things straggle on like a stubborn yeast rash on my back. Several months ago after reading about the benefits of taking colostrum I decided to give it a go myself before reccommeding it to any clients. I have always been sensitive to dairy (though not allergic) so was sceptical that it would suit me. The first few days I had every side effect reported in the literature I had read - bloating, burning sesation in my stomach, my old scars hurt, all my yeast rashes got worse and I developed a yucky Candida Rash on my tummy. I pressed on and within 5 days I had bags of energy, my digestion was hugely improved, bloating had gone, the candida rash vanished and my yeast rashes are finally a thing of the past.

As a baby I was a caesarian delivery, which I knew meant that I hadn't recieved the right bacteria from the vaginal tract as we are designed to do. This bacteria goes on to colonise in your bowel, to create payers patches which form the basis of 80% of your immune system. I was breast fed but also had some formula milk, which does corrupt the implantation of good bacteria from the colostrum in a mothers milk. I had tons of tonsilitis as a kid and lots of antibiotics! I now know that my immune system was crying for help even then and that the antibiotics left me even more vunerable. A child's bowel is more porous that an adults but becomes stronger over time especially with breast milk - I know that my bowel had always been compromised as I have suffered from many food intolerances, which all fundementally stem from a "leaky bowel". This is when protein molecules of foods leak into the blood stream and are attacked by antibodies by mistake. Anyone with food allergies will have a hyperporous bowel and clinical studies suggest our stomach acid is week so our proteins are poorly digested in the first place.

Colostrum helps heal the bowel by producing certain antibodies and lowers allergic reaction by regulating the immune system. Although it is not as good as our own mother's colostrum which is specifically designed to suit our personal needs, it can provide the stimulation needed to help a person's bowel truly start to heal itself. With over 80% of our immune system in our bowel - a happy bowel definately means a healthy happy body!! Most of your seritonin (feel good chemical that is supplemented in antidepressants) is produced in the bowel so no wonder we feel down and depressed when our bowel isn't working. I am definately going to keep it in my regieme as a maintainence dose!
