Dough Balls with Garlic Butter - Paleo, Grain Free and Dary Free

With the lovely sunshine we have been having we were definitely up for a Sunday afternoon BBQ.  I wanted to make something that we could share to stem hungry appetites while the meat was cooking.  These dough balls are actually quite similar to those from Pizza Express - even my husband and non paleo friends agreed!

Paleo Dough Balls with Garlic Butter

Makes approximately 16 balls.

Ingredients

For dough balls:

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil or olive oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 3/4 cup tapioca flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour


Put water and coconut/olive oil in a pan with the salt.  Bring to the boil.  Put the tapioca flour in a bowl and add the boiling water mixture and stir well.  It will look like a big starchy blob and some of the fat will not mix in. Leave to cool for 5 mins. 

Add the egg and mix well with a spoon.  Add the coconut oil and mix well with a spoon.  take the mixture and knead by hand until the coconut flour is completely mixed in. 

Line a baking tray with baking parchment and place small balls of the mixture (approximately the size of a walnut) on to the tray. 

Cook for about 25 mins at 180 degrees until golden. 


Enjoy hot with the garlic butter below.  The dough can be made ahead of time and kept in the fridge.  They can be made the day before, but heat through in the oven before serving as they do not work well cold. 


For garlic butter:

  • 2 tbsp. grass fed organic butter (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp chopped parsley
  • 1/2 tsp crushed fresh garlic

Mix all the ingredients well by hand in a small dish.  Serve with the dough balls.  This can be kept in the fridge for weeks and also added to steaks/fish.
