Wild Orange Chocolate Brownies

Wild Orange Chocolate Brownies

Paleo, Gluten/Grain Free, Dairy Free, Nut Free & Refined Sugar Free

These paleo brownies are a firm favourite in our house and are ideal for school lunch boxes as they are also nut free.  For this batch I have used the doTERRA Wild Orange Oil.  Not only does it taste amazing it also works on your emotional state to make you feel calm and uplifted (I will keep telling myself that as I have another one!!).  These brownies are very quick to make and I have yet to find anyone that can guess they are grain and dairy free. I used a hand blender to make this recipe, but you could easily use a nutribullet or blender for the first stage and mix in the dry ingredients by hand.  I prefer to use refined coconut oil for this recipe so the coconut taste doesn't compete with the orange, but it is down to personal taste.

Ingredients

1/2 scant cup of coconut flour
1/2 cup coco or cacao powder
1/2 cup coconut oil (use refined coconut oil if you don't want the taste)
1/4 cup coconut sugar
1/2 cup of maple syrup (or honey if on GAPs).
3 eggs
1 tbsp vanilla essence
3 or more drops of Wild Orange Essential Oil (to taste)
100g of chocolate chips, nuts or dried fruit (optional)

Method

Melt the coconut oil gently in the pan.  Add this (ensure it is not too hot or it will cook your eggs) to the eggs, coconut sugar, maple syrup and vanilla.  Mix with the hand blender until fully combined.  Add the dry ingredients and mix again with the hand blender.  Add the chocolate chips, nuts or fruit if you wish.  Finally add the Wild Orange Oil - do this a drop at a time and taste regularly until you are happy with the strength of the orange - a little of this goes a long way.  Pour into a 7"x7" cake tin and cook in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for around 20 mins.  We love ours warm with some coconut ice cream and berries or cold with a cup of tea!

I am a fan of chocolates and I love brownies as well. I never heard of a chocolate brownie with an orange as an ingredient. It's kind of interesting for me because it is new and looks delicious as well. I am used to vanilla extracts only, that's why I am a bit surprised with the kind of brownie you have there. As I read the content, especially the information and ingredients you have provided. I would love to try this! Thank you for sharing this with us.

I love brownies! I haven't had a taste of healthy brownies yet, but I bet that it would be a treat. So far I have been buying brownies off the shelf and I don't know if they are healthy but they are really yummy. I'll try this out because I have a craving for brownies and I really love how you describe this and how it will make you feel better. I'll tell you what I think about this recipe after making one for myself.
