What is RAW Chocolate?
All chocolate begins as raw cacao. The cacao bean comes from the fruit of the cacao plant which grows in tropical jungle regions. When raw cacao is processed to make chocolate, it undergoes exposure to extreme heat which destroys most of the heat-sensitive nutrients. When cacao is kept in its raw state, it is the most nutritionally potent food on the planet. It contains:
ANTIOXIDANTS The second highest antioxidant count of any food. The anitoxidants in raw cacao are highly stable and easily metabolized. NOTE: Studies indicate that dairy products specifically block the absorption of all the great antioxidants in cacao.
MAGNESIUM (The highest source of magnesium of any known food) Magnesium balances brain chemistry, builds strong bones (by balancing calcium levels), and is associated with more happiness.
SULPHUR. Known as the beauty mineral, sulphur builds strong nails, hair, beautiful, shiny skin, detoxifies the liver, and supports healthy pancreas functioning.
MAO Inhibitors. Cacao seems to diminish appetite, probably due to its monoamine oxidase enzyme inhibitors. These rare MAO inhibitors allow more serotonin and other neurotransmitters to circulate in the brain. MAO inhibitors facilitate youthening and rejuvenation.
PHENYLETHYLAMINE (PEA). PEA is an adrenal-related chemical that is also created within the brain and released when we are in love. This is one of the reasons why love and chocolate have a deep correlation. PEA also plays a role in increasing focus and alertness.
ANANDAMIDE (The Bliss Chemical) Produced naturally in the brain, this neurotransmitter has been isolated in cacao and is known as “The Bliss Chemical” because it is released while we are feeling great.
THEOBROMINE— a relative of caffeine, which has a relaxing effect on the smooth muscle groups, deepens breathing, and produces a subtle, clear sense of emotional well-being. It is also antibacterial.
So chocolate not only gives us feelings of bliss, it chills us out as well as picks us up. As long as we dont abuse it and destroy all the valuable nutrients chocolate is a powerful superfood with wonderful health giving properties.
What is in a RAW Chocolate Bar or Cake?
Raw Chocolate bars only have Cacao powder, cacao butter, agave syrup and a little vanilla essence.
Cakes and energy bars have gluten free oats (or buckwheat flakes), dates, ground almonds, cacao nibs, agave syrup, cashew nuts, cacao butter, cacao powder and vanilla essence. All natural, organic and RAW ingredients. Cakes are not cooked but mixed in a food processor and set in a fridge.
They are delicious and as good for you as a health food bar, packed full of vitamins and minerals. They are low GI (agave syrup has a GI of only 19) and suitable for coeliacs and dairy allergy sufferers. They also contain no egg, soya or refined sugar.
