Sam Marshall (Dip HNP, Dip AIT)
I became interested in Holistic Therapies over 10 years ago when I qualified in Swedish Body Massage. My interest broadened and I went to to study Reiki, gaining my Reiki I and II attunements. Despite my interest in health and following what I believed at the time to be a healthy lifestyle of diet and exercise, I was plagued with constipation, lower back pain and weight gain. By the age of 27 I was nearly 14st and couldn't walk for more than 10 mins without severe lower back pain. I knew something had to change.
Inspired by a friend, I went for a food intolerance test myself and found that by undertaking a controlled elimination diet and naturopathic treatment programme I lost a significant amount of weight and experienced huge health benefits. My back pain dramatically decreased and I had so much energy. For the first time in years I really knew what it was like to feel "well".
Over the years I have experienced elimination diets first hand, having cut out wheat, dairy, egg, sugar, yeast, chocolate and many other nice things I had relied on in the past. I now have an excellent bank of tried and tested dietary alternatives to reccommend and a host of books and recipes I can suggest to support you on your journey.
I don't believe in reccommending treatments unless I have tried them myself, so I can give you honest and frank information on what to expect as you undertake the healing process.
I trained in Allergy Intolerance Therapy and Holistic Nutritional Practice at the College of Holistic Health and Nutrition, but prior to that I had also gained a BSc in Psychology and a PGDip in Sports Coaching. I have worked with a range of people from elite athletes and the general public and have experience in dealing with numerous different conditions.
I like to think the workshops I offer are both fun and packed with useful information. I cater for all learning styles and can adapt all courses to suit different learning needs. I have been coaching and tutoring for over 10 years in the Sports industry and have had experience in writing and delivering courses in team bulding, leadership and communication skills. I am currently training to become an NVQ Assessor in Leadership and Management and work as a consultant for Sportworks Training Solutions, delivering leadership programmes to clients such as the Rugby Football Union, GB Archery and Youth Sport Trust. I also deliver workshops in the commercial sector to clients such as Southern Electric Contracting. I am also a lecturer at the College of Holistic Health and Nutrition delivering topics on the Holistic Nutritional Practice Course.
In private practice, on a one to one level, I have had experience working with children of all ages and specialise in nutrition and food intolerances for pregnancy, breastfeeding mothers and babies. This is an area I have always been interested in, but have been passionate about since the birth of my little boy, who also suffers from Food Intolerances. I have also had great success working with people to eliminate Candida overgrowth, adrenal fatigue and hormonal imbalance.
I believe in a holistic treatment approach, ensuring that people are empowered to take responsibility for their own health through education and support. I believe that complementary therapies don't always have to replace mainstream medical treatment, but can work alongside medication to encourage life long healing.
I am a member of the Association of Holistic Nutritional Practitioners and the Federation of Nutritional Therapy Practitioners. I am an associate of Ask Nutrition.
