Dough Balls with Garlic Butter - Paleo, Grain Free and Dary Free

With the lovely sunshine we have been having we were definitely up for a Sunday afternoon BBQ.  I wanted to make something that we could share to stem hungry appetites while the meat was cooking.  These dough balls are actually quite similar to those from Pizza Express - even my husband and non paleo friends agreed!

Paleo Dough Balls with Garlic Butter

Makes approximately 16 balls.


For dough balls:

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil or olive oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 3/4 cup tapioca flour
  • 1 egg

Breakfast Patties - GAPs, Paleo friendly, grain, gluten, dairy and egg free.

On a GAPs or Paleo diet I find the hardest meal to replace is breakfast.  Our "normal" breakfast foods like cereals, toast, pastries, muffins etc are so carbohydrate heavy.  Any replacements end up using loads of eggs, and whilst I am a fan of eggs I like some variation.  I am happy with a traditional english breakfast, but don't want this every day, plus finding nitrate free sausages and bacon is hard in the UK.  So I wanted some simple breakfasts I could make in advance and either heat up or put in the oven in the morning as we are getting ready.

Chocolate Key Lime Pie - Paleo/GAPs, Gluten, Grain, Dairy, Egg and refined Sugar free (with nut free variation)

The boys and I are staying with my parents for the Easter Holidays, so I decided to use the opportunity to tryout a new desert recipe on everyone.  The ingredients were classified until after it was eaten.  It actually contains avacados, which are full of omega 3 (for someone who professes to hate avacados Thomas was not shy in wolfing down 2 pieces and asking for a third) and everyone agreed that it was seriously good - especially knowing that it was grain, gluten, dairy, egg and refined sugar free.

Paleo Crepes/English Pancakes - Grain, gluten, nut and dairy free.

So a little late with this post but I wanted to make some "proper pankes on shrove Tuesday that actually tasted like the pancakes I remember before I eliminated wheat.  You can ask my mum I think my best effort one pancake day was 10 in a row!  All the recipes I have tried so are that are GAPs/Paleo friendly are really "eggy" and do not have the right texture.  These are child and husband approved and are very moreish.  I had these ones with some cinnamon, lemon juice and maple syrup, which is also Thomas' favourite, but Harry likes peanut butter, honey and banana.

GAPs, Paleo Salmon and Vegetables

This is actually my go to meal if we want something quick.  It only takes minutes to prepare and I can do other jobs while it is cooking.  It only takes 30 mins to cook too so ideal for a weekday night. 

I try to use wild salmon as farmed salmon has less omega 3 in it due to the food the fish are fed on the farms, plus the antibiotics and other chemicals too. 
Super Quick Salmon
1 boneless salmon filet per person
2 - 3 tbsp. oil or butter/ghee
juice of 1 lemon
rock salt

Thai Style Beef Soup - Soya, Gluten, Dairy, Egg and Sugar Free, GAPs, SCD and Paleo Friendly

The weather has been so awful recently I have really wanted something warm for lunch.  Whilst comforting root vegetable stews and soups are nice, this offers a nice variation and uses up some left over roast beef from a Sunday lunch.  It also reminds me of the Thai/Chinese noodle type soups which would obviously contain wheat, and the beansprouts add an interesting texture.  I make this soup with Coconut Aminos but you could easily make it with Tamari for a Gluten Free Soya Sauce option.

Chocolate Brownies - Grain Free, Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Sugar Free, SCD, GAPs and Paleo Friendly

This weekend's treat is a batch of grain free chocolate brownies.  A year on GAPs protocol has meant that we can now tolerate ground almonds (this time last year Thomas and I both got itchy throats when we ate them and Thomas got some eczema) and I have to say whilst I don't mind baking with coconut flour, almond flour does make delicious baked goods and the texture makes a nice change.  These are still a bit cakey rather than that crumbly outside, soft in the middle texture we love with brownies.

Chocolate Chip Cookies - Grain Free, Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Egg Free, SCD, Paleo and GAPS Friendly

I must confess these took a few goes to my recipe variations right, however I really didn't mind eating the mishaps as they all tasted fab.  This is my officially kid tested recipe that is just delicious and reminds me of Millies Cookies (which obviously we can no longer have).  I have used dark chocolate chips which do contain some sugar, so have also posted a GAPs Friendly version below for those avoiding any refined sugar/soya lecithin at all.  All versions are delicious!

Crispy Duck Wraps - Grain, Dairy, Sugar, Nut and Soya Free, GAPs and Paleo Friendly

I love crispy duck pancakes, but sadly the wheat and MSG does not love me.  I might love to eat it but the grumpy mood, sore tummy and sometimes headaches afterwards are not really worth it.  So I wanted to come up with some kind of alternative that could nearly hit the spot. 

Crispy Duck Pancakes

Makes 8 wraps (maybe more depending on how hungry you are)

1 whole ideally free range duck
1/2 cucumber
bunch of spring onions
4 tbsp. coconut aminos or tamari (wheat free soya sauce)
4 tbsp. light honey

Lemon and Raisin Loaf - Grain free, Dairy Free, Nut Free, Sugar Free, GAPs & Paleo Friendly

My parents were coming to stay and they love their afternoon tea, so I wanted to make something we could all share.  This Lemon Loaf has turned out to be a great favourite and it very easy to make, being grain, nut and dairy free.

Lemon Cake

Makes 6 large slices

Equipment: hand blender, bowl, mixing spoon, loaf tin (small 6x4x2.5)

3 Eggs
2 tbsp. coconut oil or butter (melted)
2 tbsp coconut milk or yogurt
1 - 2 tbsp. honey
4 1/2 tbsp. coconut flour
zest of 1 lemon.
1tbsp lemon juice
1 handful of raisins
